The Story Behind my Research- How does growing up in foster care affect a students ability to acheive academically and socially at the same level as those who live in a typical home?

I am choosing this research topic because, I am a teen who was placed into foster care multiple times. The movements from place to place, different homes, different people, and for me sometimes a new school. It takes an emotional, physical, and mental toll on you. Afterwhile some people can't take it and just give up. When you give up you gain nothing and lose everything. In school your performance and grades slip and it may cause you to have a "non caring attitude." In meetings I listened to the different information presented to me as "possible solutions" for a placement. The statistics for many females and males that end up in foster care are large in only negative areas. I too am labeled with a statistic that could possible follow me around for the rest of my life. As I stated before the success level for females and males in graduating from school or just completeing school is low. I choose to "beat the system." What does this mean? I chose not to become another of the world's or DSS statistics. I maintain good grades, work hard and push to reach every goal. This is what it will take to ensure that will become successful. This is the story behind my research.
